It’s part of who we are. Grounded in our commitment to character, scholarship, and excellence, our Service Learning Program empowers students to engage meaningfully with the world around them. Through hands-on experiences that promote empathy, compassion, and civic responsibility, students discover their ability to make a difference.

Service That Grows With Students

From early experiences that introduce the joy of helping others to more advanced, student-led projects in Middle and Upper School, service learning at BGA is intentionally woven throughout each division:

  • Lower School: Classroom-driven service efforts introduce students to the importance of kindness, empathy, and community.
  • Middle School: Advisory-based service projects help students connect leadership with responsibility and real-world impact.
  • Upper School: Students lead and design initiatives aligned with their interests, often partnering with local nonprofits or developing independent service efforts.

By the time they graduate, BGA students understand that service is more than a checklist, it’s a mindset rooted in purpose and action.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Service learning at BGA fosters:

  • A deeper sense of empathy and compassion.
  • An understanding of local and global community needs.
  • Communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Reflection and critical thinking about purpose, privilege, and impact.

Whether they’re collecting supplies, mentoring younger students, organizing drives, or partnering with organizations, students see the results of their efforts and grow as leaders in the process.
