BGA’s Performing Arts program builds creativity and confidence, offering music, drama, and theatre opportunities from Pre-K through Upper School.

At Battle Ground Academy, performing arts are a vibrant part of student life from pre-K through 12th grade. Through ensemble work, theatrical collaboration, and performance practice, students build confidence, artistic sensitivity, and the ability to communicate meaningfully on stage.

A Program That Grows With Students
Performing arts instruction at BGA is intentionally sequenced to support growth at every level. Students begin with foundational skills in movement, voice, and expression, and progress to ensemble performance, production opportunities, and advanced coursework in theatre and music.

Learning Through Performance
Students learn by doing. Across drama, musical theatre, ensemble music, and performance workshops, emphasis is placed on collaboration, creative risk-taking, reflection, and stagecraft, helping students refine their craft and bring artistic ideas to life.

Spaces Designed for the Stage
Purpose-built rehearsal rooms, performance spaces, and production facilities give students room to prepare, collaborate, and share their work with the community. These environments support both curricular and co-curricular experiences throughout the year.

A Stunning Stage for Creative Growth

At the heart of BGA’s performing arts program is the Sondra Morris & Robert N. Moore, Jr. ’52 Center for Arts and Entrepreneurship. Located on the Glen Echo campus, the center features a 550-seat theater with professional lighting and sound, a rehearsal theater, makeup and dressing rooms, performing arts classrooms, and a makerspace for set design and construction.

This space hosts multiple productions annually – musicals, plays, concerts, assemblies, and guest artist performances – giving students across all divisions the chance to develop their talents in a professional setting. Whether performing in front of a full house or collaborating on a set build behind the scenes, students experience the power of artistic expression and community connection.

Opportunities for Growth and Recognition

Performing arts at BGA go beyond the stage. Students have opportunities to participate in concerts, productions, ensembles, after-school programs, clubs, and interdisciplinary projects that help them grow as artists and collaborators. Beginning in Middle School, students can choose music, theatre, and related electives, while Upper School students have access to more advanced coursework and performance opportunities that allow them to deepen their skills and creative confidence.

For those seeking to pursue their artistic passion at a deeper level, BGA offers a Fine Arts Concentration in Upper School. Through this program, performing arts students receive structure, mentorship, and a vibrant creative community that supports them as they develop discipline, take creative risks, refine their voice, and grow in their ability to communicate and collaborate with others.
