Character. Scholarship. Excellence.

Student Council

Central to our community’s Student Life are the Student Council members and Class Officers.  These student leadership teams at the Upper School represent a voice for the entire student body and serve in an advisory role to the administration. The Student Council meets throughout the school year.  The role of this student group is to represent the student body, to promote understanding between faculty and students, and to encourage student interest in school activities.

Student Publications

Students with an interest in journalism, photography, or writing are encouraged to participate as members of the creative teams that design BGA's yearbook, The Cannonball; The Quadrangle, which showcases the creative gifts of students and allows them the opportunity to have their work published; and The Student Echo, a team of students who bring stories of BGA life to the school community through the school newspaper.

Honor Code & Honor Council

The Honor Code is one of BGA's most treasured traditions, adopted in the school’s first year. In 1889, students were asked to sign the pledge on their test papers. Respect for the honor code remains a crucial expectation of each student at BGA. The code is predicated on the assumption that students and faculty are honorable and may be trusted. Each member of the BGA community must accept his or her personal responsibility to this Honor Code.

Clubs & Organizations

With more than 30 clubs and activities to choose from, BGA's Upper School offers a wide variety of opportunities for students to explore extra-curricular activities and to develop leadership skills. Our clubs are student-designed and student-led and each has a faculty advisor who offers guidance and mentoring throughout the school year.

Class Officers

Six elected positions serve as Class Officers for their respective grade each year.  The class president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and a representative for both the Greer and Plato societies are elected annually.  These officers work side-by-side with their respective faculty sponsors and with the Student Council representatives to sponsor social activities throughout the year. These students are central to leading our school spirit, morale, and extracurricular activities.

Greer & Plato Societies

While numerous literary societies have existed for centuries, the Greer and Plato tradition at Battle Ground Academy has withstood the test of time.  Through the years, it has evolved into an academic and athletic rivalry that is central to BGA's day-to-day school life.  The year-long competition culminates each year with the Upper School Plato vs. Greer Tug of War competition in late spring over the banks of the Harpeth River in Franklin.
