Character. Scholarship. Excellence.
The BGA Counseling Program offers a variety of services to all students. As the Middle School Counselor, Mrs. Jeanna Reid is an advocate and resource for Middle School students and parents.  Her office is a confidential place to turn when extra support is needed.  She often works with students on talking about their relationships, managing stress, and developing social and emotional coping skills.  Parents are also encouraged to contact Mrs. Reid for additional social, emotional, or educational support for their child.  Mrs. Reid provides short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals when more in-depth support is indicated. Conversations with parents and students remain confidential, except in cases where abuse or suicide are suspected or when parents provide permission to share information with appropriate resources (see the Statement of Confidentiality on this page).

Additionally, Mrs. Reid is a member of the Middle School Administration Team.  She works with the Middle School Deans on the Middle School Advisory program, administers student academic schedules, oversees the 8th grade trip to Washington D.C., and is also the Middle School Duke-Tip representative and the Assistant Drama Director for our two Middle School plays.  Mrs. Reid teaches our Sex Education program in the 7th and 8th grade, which is based on the Choosing the Best series.

New initiatives this year:

Mrs. Reid is directing two new initiatives in 2016-2017.  The first encourages 8th Grade Leadership and Public Speaking by having each 8th grade advisory write and deliver a speech about one of the Eight Character Traits of The BGA Way. The second is the teaching of digital citizenship to young people and engaging parents using Common Sense Education materials in pursuit of BGA becoming a Common Sense Digitally Certified School.
