Arts Programs at Battle Ground Academy

Developing Talent and Creativity

The arts are an essential piece of the BGA educational experience, providing opportunities for students to express themselves fully through various mediums while learning to see and make connections to the world around them.

VISUAL ARTS Programs at BGA

Our visual arts program begins in kindergarten and continues throughout Upper School, with classes available to students in every grade and after-school opportunities in each division for students who want to pursue their interests and passions beyond the typical classroom experience.

On the Glen Echo campus, all visual art classes are held in the Mary Campbell Visual Arts Center. Natural light pours into our studios, where students explore art history, painting, color and design, drawing, printmaking, and sculpting. Throughout the year, BGA hosts student, alumni, and visiting artist exhibits in the center’s on-campus gallery, which is open to the public.

PERFORMING ARTS Programs at BGA

Beginning in kindergarten, our students perform in front of their peers at various special events and grade-level assemblies as they hone their vocal, instrumental, dramatic, and public speaking skills. In Middle and Upper School, those offerings expand to include more than 30 courses in drama and vocal and instrumental instruction, as well as multiple large-scale productions of musicals and plays.

The Sondra Morris & Robert N. Moore, Jr. ’52 Center for Arts and Entrepreneurship, located on our Glen Echo campus, is the hub of our performing arts program. The center’s 550-seat theatre is a performance space for BGA students of all ages, with state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology. The center also includes performing arts classrooms, makeup and dressing rooms, a black box theatre, and a makerspace for set design and building.
