Athletic Round Up: Week of November 2

The Boys Varsity Cross Country team competed at the state championships at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville. In their eighth consecutive trip to the state meet, the boys finished 7th as a team and were led by senior Cole Beck Williams, who finished 30th with a time of 18:13. Other scoring runners for the Wildcats were Jack Evans ‘23 (33rd, 18:19-PR), Oliver Baker ‘23 (46th, 18:59), Jack Revere ‘21 (51st, 19:24), and Braden Millard ‘24 (52nd, 19:25). Brady Zhang ‘22 finished just behind his teammates in 53rd place with a new PR of 19:30. The team average was 18:52, with an impressive 1-5 split of 1:12.
This team accomplished many program “firsts,” including bringing home a team trophy from the Nashville City Meet (3rd) and a plaque from the DII-A Middle Region Championship (Runner-Up). Next year, they will return 7 of their 10 Varsity runners. Congrats on a great season, Wildcats!

In the first round of the playoffs, the BGA Wildcats traveled to Southhaven, Miss., where BGA defeated Northpoint Christian School 45-13. BGA started fast jumping out to a 28-0 first quarter lead. Scoring highlights in the first quarter included a 51-yard Brett Brown ‘22 pass to senior Xavier Shaw, Miller Barnett ‘22 and Zach Flores ‘22 rushing touchdowns, and a Sean Williams ‘22 interception return for a touchdown. In the second quarter, the Wildcats kept up the pace with a Brett Brown 1-yard QB sneak and a Zion Morris ‘22 interception return for a touchdown. BGA capped off the first half with a Robbie Wright ‘21 31-yard field goal. In the second half, BGA was able to play a number of younger players to give them valuable playoff experience. Next week, BGA travels to ECS for the third consecutive season, including back-to-back quarterfinal matchups. The Eagles are the Division II-AA West Region champions and the defending state champions. This game sets up to be an excellent contest.
