BGA vs Pope John Paul II
Wednesday, September 2
The BGA girls soccer team traveled to Division II-AA Pope John Paul II last night and were handed their first loss of the season. This was the first big test for the Wildcats since the first week of the season, so the first half looked a bit rusty. The speed and level of play from the Knights was something that put the Wildcats on their backfoot for the first 9 minutes of the match and put them down 1 goal. BGA finally settled into the intensity of the match and managed to have the better part of the play on JP2's half of the field, but couldn't level the scoreline. In the second half, the Wildcats continued to pour on the pressure, but after a quick counter-attack by the Knights, BGA found themselves down 2 goals in the 64th minute. As her first start in goal, BGA's Beth Fleming ‘22 denied several more attempts by the Knights with her natural abilities and made 6 saves on the night. JP2 would go on another surge of pressure, sending powerful numbers into the box to cause chaos and eventually poke one more goal in to make the final score 3-0, in favor of JP2.
BGA vs Webb Bell Buckle (Senior Night)
Thursday, September 3
On a special evening for the BGA Girls Soccer Program, the 2021 senior class was recognized before kickoff. This senior class led the way on a scoring frenzy for the Wildcats in tonight's match with Webb School from Bell Buckle. Starting the scoring drive for the Wildcats was Keaton Mitchell '23, who got on the end of Eva Schreiber's '23 serve into the Webb penalty box in the 1st minute of the game. It was a short seven minutes later that BGA's senior group poured on the next several goals. Leading the game in scoring was Sarah May '21, who ran down a serve from Sara Evans '21 to put the Wildcats ahead 2 goals. In just 60 seconds, May struck again, but this time unassisted as she battled for a loose ball in front of Webb's goal and gave BGA a 3-goal lead. May was a beast in the Webb attack, as she netted her third goal of the match in the 16th minute after Colby Davis '21 fed her another quality serve from the middle third of the field. Continuing to carry the senior torch of scoring, Sara Evans '21 scored in the 18th minute from Jane Napier's '21 cross from the wing. Goals fell again in favor of the Wildcats in the 28th minute (Palmer Grace Snead '24, assisted by Sara Evans '21), 38th minute (Bella Bugg ‘23, assisted by Maddie Hill '24), 42nd minute (Catherine Schreiber '23, assisted by Sara Evans '21), and finally in the 44th minute (Keaton Mitchell '23, assisted by Sarah May '21) that gave BGA the 9-0 win and another district victory..
