Mikah Charley '20 Named John Maher Builders Scholar-Athlete
BGA congratulates Mikah Charley, Class of 2020, recently named a John Maher Builders Scholar-Athlete. A defending champion in the triple jump and hurdles, Mikah lost the opportunity to defend her state titles after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of high school spring sports. She is still in the running for the $2,000 scholarship courtesy of John Maher Builders.
BGA coach Robert Jemison says Mikah has the “heart of a champion and became a champion.”
The senior walked away last season with three Division II-A championships in the triple jump by clearing 35 feet, 10 inches, running the 100-meter hurdles in 15.53 seconds and finishing the 300-meter hurdles in 46.9 seconds. She also was a long-jump champion in 2018 and holds DII-A Middle Region records in all four events.
“The multiple state championship performances were merely the demonstration of her championship character,” Jemison said. “The best characteristics of her success were demonstrated through her work ethic and discipline.”
Jemison said that despite not being able to compete as a senior, Mikah “will be remembered as one of the best to wear a BGA uniform in a star-studded track and field career.” He added, “Mikah is one of the best and brightest of her class and she represented the school with tremendous talent, tenacity and sportsmanship.”
Mikah holds a 3.7 GPA in the classroom and is also a member of the National Honor Society. She also has done volunteer work with Infinity Sports Camp and has served as an assistant teacher at Harpeth Christian Church in the children’s ministry program.
“Mikah taught herself the habits that it took to be successful,” Jemison said.
Mikah will continue her track and field career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga this fall. She is the daughter of Christina and Damien Charley of Franklin.
