On Friday, November 8, the BGA Lady Wildcats defeated CPA 4-1 to win the 2019 TSSAA Div II-A State Championship title played at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro. This is the 41st season of the program and fourth state championship with previous titles earned in 2000, 2007, and 2014.
This was the third matchup in the 2019 season for BGA and crosstown rival CPA and destined to happen as CPA had remained the top seed in the state since the 2018 season. BGA gained momentum as their postseason progressed, however, and came out the victor in the most important match of the 2019 season.
BGA came out early with pressure on the CPA defense, scoring first and continuing to pour on relentless force for the duration of the game. The first goal of the game for BGA came from Eva Schreiber ‘23, who redirected a shot from twin sister, Cat Schreiber ‘23, in the 12th minute. Five minutes later, Kennedy Price ‘22, blasted a low and hard service into the CPA penalty box that ricocheted off of a CPA player and into CPA's goal. And only four minutes later, BGA struck again to take a 3-0 lead into half with another goal from Eva Schreiber ‘23, as she headed a service from Scout Speer ‘20 that passed the CPA goalkeeper.
Coming out of halftime, BGA continued to rain down on CPA and found the back of the net one last time with a goal by Alyssa White ‘22, who converted on another serve from Scout Speer ‘20. CPA's lone goal came in the 70th minute and too late in the game to come back from the cushion BGA had on the scoreboard. BGA rode their 3-goal lead until the final whistle and gained the title of STATE CHAMPION for the 4th time in program history.
BGA finished the season 19-4-0 STATE CHAMPS.
