The BGA Counseling Program offers a variety of services to all students. As the Upper School Counselor, Mrs. Layne Pickett is an advocate and resource for Upper School students and parents. Her office is a confidential place to turn when extra support is needed. She often works with students on developing better coping skills, talking about their relationships, or managing stress. Parents are also encouraged to contact Mrs. Pickett for additional social, emotional, or educational support for their son or daughter. Mrs. Pickett provides short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referrals when more in-depth support is indicated. Conversations with parents and students remain confidential, except in cases where abuse or suicide are suspected or when parents provide permission to share information with appropriate resources. See the Statement of Confidentiality on this page.
Additionally, Mrs. Pickett teaches a freshman life-preparedness class, oversees the Upper School Advisory Program, sponsors the Peer Leadership Program and maintains close communication with teachers and administrators regarding student needs.
