Character. Scholarship. Excellence.
Battle Ground Academy’s mission is to ignite and nurture student curiosity, intellect, and character.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. -- William Butler Yeats

We are a college-preparatory iPad school that balances the world’s demand for savvy technical skills with the timeless interpersonal skills needed for developing girls and boys of high character.
Essential to this balance is the student-teacher relationship and a Middle School team that knows, understands, and cares for each child.  Students at this tender age need adults who can ignite their passions and nurture their curiosity.  Students need teachers who can encourage them to play new sports, try new arts, and explore new interests.  With small classes, weekly advisory, and ample extracurricular offerings, every student at BGA is known—well.  And since every student has unique strengths and weaknesses, the entire BGA team—teacher, coach, advisor, grade-level team leader, counselor, and dean—works together to challenge students to become the best version of themselves.
Our faculty—75% of whom have advanced degrees, including 4 with Ph.D.’s—averages 17 years of teaching experience.  This faculty leads students through a challenging college preparatory program, with core courses in English, History, Math, and Science, a choice of 3 Foreign Languages, 7th & 8th grade Honors courses, daily Wellness classes, extensive offerings in the visual and performing arts, a dozen clubs, and 13 athletic teams.  Our inquiry-based curriculum includes programs such as Writer’s Workshop, Math in Focus, and Facing History—programs that encourage students to go beyond the identification of rote answers—the filling of a pail—to the asking of those questions essential to understanding, application, and innovation—the lighting of a fire.
