Service-learning is a hallmark of a BGA education, and we work to prepare students to be thoughtful citizens by providing opportunities for community service beginning in kindergarten. While Covid precautions have hampered our ability to work alongside each other in the community, it hasn’t kept us from finding ways to serve those in need this semester.
Our Lower School students continued their tradition of completing chores to earn money to benefit a nonprofit during the holidays. Overall, the Lower School earned $2,457. Each class worked together to purchase 220 items off the wish list for Graceworks: The Manger, an annual Christmas program that allows neighbors in need to choose presents (all in new condition) for their loved ones in a store-like environment.
Middle School students held a Thanksgiving food drive and provided gifts and stocking stuffers for nearly 100 children and families, all to benefit Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes’ foster families.
Upper School students held a Thanksgiving food and donation drive, delivering monetary donations and more than 2,000 pounds of food to Hard Bargain Association and Graceworks. After Thanksgiving, the Upper School collected nearly 100 blankets for Blanket Nashville and hosted a Hard Bargain Angel Tree toy drive.
