BGA Latin Students Place at State TJCL Tournament
The Tennessee Junior Classical League's annual state tournament was held virtually this year, but that didn't deter BGA's Upper School Junior Classical League Latin Club members from competing at a high level.

Andi Sanduski earned first place in the Impromptu Art contest (open to all course levels) for her Melpomene, muse of tragedy. Andi was required to create art under the assigned theme of "the muses" and only had one day to complete it.

Olivia Whitley earned fourth place in the Latin 2 Vocabulary contest.

William Watson earned fifth place in the Latin 1 Grammar contest, third place in the Latin 1 Derivatives contest, and first place (by himself!) in novice team Certamen. Certamen is similar to Quiz Bowl but in the Latin language and Greco-Roman culture. In the final round of Certamen, William faced two other teams – one of two students and one of four students. He earned 95 pts by himself, while the other teams earned 15 and 0.

Caden Brousseau also qualified for the state tournament. His participation and team spirit were much appreciated.

The Junior Classical League Latin Club team is led by BGA Middle and Upper School Latin teacher Abram Ring, Ph.D. The club is open to current Latin students and students who have previously had two years of the language. JCL supports the interdisciplinary study of Greek and Latin language and Greek and Roman culture and competes at state and regional conventions in academic, arts, and athletic events.
