Girls Soccer
BGA vs Columbia Academy
Tuesday, August 24
BGA traveled 45 minutes south on Highway 31 to the historic Columbia Academy to play in their first district game and earned their first victory of the 2021 season. Scoring came quickly and often for the Wildcats. Getting the first goal on the scoreboard in the 3rd minute off a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar was BGA's Maddie Hill '24. Within a minute of Maddie's goal, Eva Schreiber '23 capitalized off a through ball from her twin sister, Cat Schreiber '23, to give BGA a two goal lead. Eva "paid it forward" by assisting the next goal in the 13th minute as she combined with Kennedy Price '22. Combination play was the key to BGA's 4th goal between Maddie Hill '24 and Keaton Mitchell '23. At the halfway point of the first half, Lindsey Summarell '23 placed a perfectly headed service from Kennedy Price's '22 corner to give BGA a five-goal lead. BGA added to it's lead with goals from Kennedy Price '22 (24th minute, assisted by Maddie Hill '24), Eva Schreiber '23 (45th and 27th minutes, both assisted by Cat Schreiber '24, and 48th minute, assisted by Kennedy Price '22). The final score was 9-0 in favor of BGA.

BGA vs CPA
Wednesday, August 25
In BGA’s season home opener, the Wildcats hosted rival CPA. These two teams always put together an entertaining game and this evening was no exception. CPA and BGA traded equal amounts of opportunities on goal, but BGA converted first. In the 7th minute, Kennedy Price ‘22 connected with Keaton Mitchell ‘23 with a perfect service to Keaton’s head. In a perfectly timed jump, Keaton headed the ball back across the goal in front of CPA’s goalkeeper and into the side netting of the far post. Action continued at both ends of the field, and CPA leveled the score in the 27th minute with a goal from Caroline Moore, assisted by Shelby Wood. Second half action took on the look as the first, but CPA converted on their opportunities and BGA did not. In the 57th minute, BGA was penalized for a handball in the box that resulted in a CPA PK and a one goal lead. In the 70th minute, CPA took a two-goal lead by smashing a free kick outside the box and past the near post of BGA’s wall. Just before the end of the game, CPA took advantage of BGA pushing numbers forward by scoring out of their counterattack to give the Lions a 4-1 victory. Both the CPA (Mackinlay Purdy) and BGA (Laurel Phelps ‘24) goalkeepers, had busy nights and shared the same number of saves of 6 each.
