BGA Announces Josh Montgomery as New Head of Upper School
Following a nationwide search, Battle Ground Academy has selected Josh Montgomery to serve as its new head of Upper School effective for the 2021-2022 school year, announced BGA Head of School Will Kesler. Montgomery replaces Jamie Griffin who has served as BGA Upper School Head since 2015.
“After a search that included dozens of well-qualified candidates, Josh emerged as the right choice with the strong experience, relational focus and academic acumen necessary to lead our Upper School,” said Kesler. “Throughout the process, it was apparent that his philosophical approach, coupled with his impressive record of leadership and growth, were a perfect fit for BGA.”
With more than 18 years of experience in independent schools, Montgomery comes to BGA from Bayside Academy in Daphne, Ala., where he was Head of Upper School since 2017. Prior to his 13 years at Bayside, he spent five years as a teacher and coach at Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Madison, Miss.
“My family is overjoyed at the opportunity that awaits us at Battle Ground Academy,” said Montgomery. “As I explored possibilities for professional growth, BGA stood out as a school that deftly balances academic dexterity, character enrichment and a future-focused mindset. It was exciting to envision our family becoming a part of the community.”
Montgomery is a graduate of Kenyon College with a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. He and his wife, Meredith, have two sons, Mays and Thatch.
