Students Receive International and Local Recognition for Poetry

BGA is proud to salute a second student for award-winning poetry. Congratulations to Grace Whitten (9th), for receiving international recognition for her poem, Unfinished Portrait, which won First Place in Category III in the 2012 General Federation of Women’s Club International Writing Competition. Grace is the daughter of Terry and Jerry Whitten of Columbia. Her award marks the second BGA student in recent months who has received first place recognition for their poetry. Earlier this fall, Natasha Hamid (7th) won First Place in the local Brentwood Women's Club's 2012 Writing Contest for her poem, The Canvas, which has now been submitted for competition at the district level. Natasha is the daughter of Samina Siddiqui and Asad Hamid of Brentwood. Both students will be honored at an awards reception hosted by the Brentwood Women's Club in March. Click here to read both poems, Unfinished Portrait and The Canvas.
