Technology at BGA
It is often said that we should not be so concerned about learning to use technology as about using technology to learn, and so from kindergarten through twelfth grade, students and teachers have access to computers and other technology tools, including:
-
Tablets for all teachers
-
Tablets for all Upper School students
-
An extensive network with wireless access everywhere
-
Wireless projectors in all classrooms
-
Computer labs and mobile carts in Lower and Middle School
-
Course websites and online access to grades & assignments
-
Online access to extensive library databases
-
"WBGA" TV broadcasting in Lower and Middle School
-
Keyboarding, computer literacy, & computer science instruction
This ubiquitous access to technology enables it to become a seamlessly integrated tool for learning. As part of the most recent strategic plan, the Board of Trustees launched an ambitious initiative in technology. In 2007, BGA began the implementation of a one-to-one computing program in the Upper School following two years of preparation. Students each have their own tablet PC computer to use at school and home. We consistently seek to integrate new technology in challenging ways into every area of the curriculum, with careful consideration given to what is developmentally appropriate for children at different grade levels. Students are introduced to educational uses of computers in their Lower School years, and integrated technology-use becomes second nature as they grow older. Teachers make the most of technology to enrich and enhance lessons, and to offer students new ways to learn skills and explore concepts. BGA students and parents use computers and the school website to access homework assignments, read current school news, note upcoming events, check grades confidentially, and much more. While technology has become a vibrant and essential tool at BGA, its most important use is, and always will be, strengthening the human connection between our students, teachers, families and the world. |
